Following the original process of Amorphic Sequence of a Place in Time (2024), this piece takes an intimate non-linear approach to xenotemporality (the alien, yet integral nature of time) this time inspired by psychogeography exercises around the city of Beijing, China.
From long historic walks around the Forbidden City, its surrounding hutongs, and many days in which air pollution turned the sky a warm, gentle shade of grey, I chose to reflect on it all through the primary colours in use, evolving them instead into ‘local primaries’. With Payne’s Grey replacing Black, the ancient shades of Malachite Green, Han Blue, Cinnabar and Royal Yellow all begin to glow on the soft linen base.
