Carbon Dating and Mnemonic Logs

2025

3-channel composite video, steel sheet with oil, graphite and felt tip detail.

Installation view at 'Fractured Continuum' (9 March - 30 April 2025), Sound Art Museum, Beijing.

(Organised by Elsewhere Culture and supported by Dulwich College Beijing.)

Taking a different perspective on geological layering, this piece consists of over 30 videos, compacted together into a format similar to the material layers of All of the Horizons (p.6). Stretching across the long steel sheet surface,

this piece illustrates temporal sedimentation, forming an abstracted living timeline.

Based on the idea that all of time happens simultaneously, each of the 30-or-so clips progresses with its own speed and duration, but is inevitably perceived from a temporal wholeness known only to us as observers. The middle section also implies the existence of two unidentified entities whose poetic ruminations feature as subtitles over the spectral composition.
