Interference
2025
oil on steel sheet, video; 20x160cm.
Installation view at 'Fractured Continuum' (9 March - 30 April 2025), Sound Art Museum, Beijing.
(Organised by Elsewhere Culture and supported by Dulwich College Beijing.)
Made using a walkthrough video recording method, this work reflects on is inspired by city surveillance. Taking the perspective of an AI which exists through interlinked security cameras, as well as those in our personal devices, the imaginary digital embodiment of this technology wanders through the city of Beijing, floating like a phantom through the streets as it continues to identify human faces, activity and daily life without the ability to understand it or participate.
The painting features a composition of blurred ethereal elements extracted from the multiple videos, which continue to resonate on top of it aligning with their spectral source only for a split second.
