A video composition of blurred ethereal elements extracted from multiple recordings, which resonate on top of the painting, aligning with their solid form only for a split second.
Made using a walkthrough video recording method, this work reflects on is inspired by city surveillance. Taking the perspective of an artificial mind which exists through interlinked security cameras and personal devices, the imaginary digital embodiment of this technology wanders through the digital dimension of the city of Beijing. Like a phantom, all this mind can do is observe through its image recognition programming, an endless array of human faces and movement, without the ability to understand or participate.
Interference was presented at Fractured Continuum (9 March - 30 April 2025, Sound Art Museum, Beijing, China), curated by Cheng Xi and art director Yu Er. Culminating Christova's 2-month residency with Elsewhere Culture and Dulwich College Beijing, the exhibition featured a series of works developed during her time in Beijing, as well as pieces and performances by local guest artists Ning An, Li Yanzheng, Xu Han and Yang Yu.
