At its core, LOCUS SOLUS 2.0 deals with the complex notions of deep time, entropy and the improbability of the genesis of organic life in Earth’s deep oceans 4 billion years ago.

Fading data, blue screens, rare minerals, old technology and organic materials like volcanic rock and crystals are arranged into configurations which give us, the foreign bodies, a new perspective on the cosmic indifference of the passage of time.

This project draws inspiration from intricate erosion of the ancient volcanic “Soft Rocks” (Меките Скали) as well as the mysterious rock formations between the old bootlegger beaches Lipite and Listi (Липите и Листи) located in the southern Bulgarian coastline. Having spent countless summers in this area, Christova refers to it as “home at the end of the world”, not only because of its distance from Bulgaria's capital city, but also the unique blend of shared solitude and timelessness these places elicit. In ruminating on a distant future and encounters past humanity, this world’s end hints at the mysterious potential for new beginnings.

A key component of this installation is a 3-channel video piece (Occam's Razor, 2024) which blends philosophical and mathematical symbology with contemporary gaming culture. Beginning with a familiar loading screen, the video hints at the activation of a primordial awareness, such as the origin of organic matter in the Earth’s deep oceans 4 billion years ago. The piece explores the fragility, improbability and inevitability of life, both in the distant past, and in potential future timelines, whilst questioning the very structure of the reality in which it all takes place.

Surrounded by the growing collection of hanging pieces made of found, recycled or disused cables, we become floating elements in the conceptual space implied by the video. When woven together, the structural tension of the cables strengthens the integrity of the weave but also magnifies the curves and bends forced by the direction of the knots. Akin to the double helix of our genetic code, each piece naturally restructures itself into shapes reminiscent of deep ocean organisms, both billions of years ago, and now, and perhaps in a future when the planet's surface becomes uninhabitable for our familiar forms of life.

LOCUS SOLUS 2.0 was presented at the main exhibition of BUNA Vol.3: Forum for Contemporary Art (3 - 8 September 2025, Varna, Bulgaria), curated by Caroline Arhuero and director Ralitza Gerasimova. For this project Christova was awarded the Special Jury Award, alongside Rayna Teneva (Balkan Contemporary Art Prize), Lukas Rehm (Project Award),  Stefano Romano (Artist Award), and Kubra Khademi (Performance Award).
