Intuitio is a complex visual enquiry into the phenomenological qualities and characteristics of light, exploring ideas of multidimensionality, materiality, and temporal awareness.
The practical research was conducted intuitively, using mundane materials, tools, and objects, allowing each test to inspire the next as a continuous rippling response to the subject matter. The experiments begin with mirror materials (mirrors), moving into augmentations using acetate (uv structors) and the distortion of projected light through water (fluids), glass, acrylic, perspex and latex (refractors). Finally, a short video was produced using direct close-up footage of the final installation experiment, config.4b (0°). In it, light becomes material within space in the same way as paint on canvas. Through layering and colour adjustments the final video piece responds to ideas on materiality, illusory perception and balance through opposition.
A question has arisen throughout these experiments: what is the true antithesis of light, and and what kind of dance could be composed by their visual and temporal entanglement?
