A superimposition of the perceived and nonphysical over the extant.
This series of abstract paintings made using acrylic paint on mylar is a rumination on erasure, entropy, and distortion—the comparison between digital deletion and large-scale physical destruction. What remains? What kinds of distortions take place?
The act of continuous, time-consuming, directional wiping-away is integral to the making of these panels, leaving visible traces and marks which stain both the mylar and the emulsion. The materials deliberately allude to events of crisis and imply a deeply embedded relationship with the digital realm.
The painting series ctrl+alt+delete was first presented at Prophecy of Future Extinctions (28 November - 1 December 2023, Royal College of Art, London).
